Overview/summary:

The Government of Viet Nam (GoV) recognizes the importance of having both women and men equally involved in tackling climate change and other environmental challenges. However, although the importance of gender mainstreaming into climate change related policies has been affirmed by leaders of the GoV in general, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), in particular, inconsistency remains in its integration into climate strategies and action plans. The most recent policy documents in Viet Nam related to climate change and disaster risk management (DRM), the National Target Program to Respond to Climate Change (2008) and the National Strategy on Climate Change (2011),1 include gender equality as a guiding principle and objective, respectively
